Pinterest is open for business!

After two years of being invitation only, Pinterest has opened its doors to the public. This means anyone who has been waiting around for an invitation can now easily sign up using Facebook, Twitter, or an email address.

Pinterest has already experienced quite a growth spurt, as well as some growing pains. Chances are a new wave of growth is now on the horizon, but this seems to worry some Pinterest users. The exclusivity that came along with the “invitation only” status seemed to keep the material on Pinterest tasteful and relevant to the overwhelmingly female audience. Many wonder what will become of Pinterest now that they’ve opened the flood gates. Will it evolve into a whole new animal, or will the overlaying theme of crafty, tasty, and pretty images stand strong? There’s no denying that Facebook’s decision to expand their user base from college students to the general public was a good move on their part, but it also changed the make up of the social network.

No matter what comes of Pinterest’s new open door policy, there’s no denying that it is a growing social platform that bloggers, businesses, and craft-happy moms shouldn’t ignore.
