How to Find Topics to Blog About

DeathtoStock_Desk7

Blogging can be a daunting task for any business. Not only do you have to find time in your busy schedule to write something new that’s relevant to your industry/service, but you have to find the perfect topic to write about.

It can be stressful (and I’ll admit, I’m writing on this subject because I had writer’s block on what to write about it), but with these suggestions, you’ll have an extended library of topics to blog about.

Get Inspired by Other Blogs

We follow a lot of industry leaders’ blogs and often get inspired by their topics. Feedly is the platform we use to organize and read articles from the people we follow. While we never copy the blog post verbatim, they often spark our inspiration on what we can blog about similarly to this (and how we can make our posts a little more informative/unique/impactful). It also can have the opposite effect and let you know which topics are oversaturated and need to be avoided.

If you’re finding yourself stumped, take a look what industry movers and shakers are talking about and see if you can get inspired.

Keyword Research

SEO is something you should always be cognitive of, and blogging is the best ongoing duty to keep working on this. By performing keyword research and finding a list of keywords that have strong metrics, you can create a post focused on one keyword. When you’re complete, you will have a post that’s optimized for the web. What a win-win!

Answer Your FAQs

If you have a FAQs page on your website, this is a great blogging opportunity. Not only will you be able to go into thorough detail for your customers’ questions, but it will turn your FAQs page into a fantastic resource. Plus, linking to your posts from your other web pages will boost your SEO.

If you do not have a FAQs page on your website, ask your colleagues or team members what your customers are consistently asking. Since you’re the subject matter expert, you’ll be able to write for days about the topic and end up with a text-rich post.

Relate an Experience with a Theme

Recently, Daniel Burstein wrote a post titled, “4 Lessons About B2B Inbound Marketing from a Sunday Morning in the Coffee Shop” and compared his morning at a Starbucks with effective inbound strategies. This post is great because it adds a personal touch to a lesson about inbound marketing, which made it that more memorable. Mickey recently did that with his blog about sliders, and it relates a real-life example with his main point. If you can find a way to combine an experience with your blog’s theme, it will be one that sticks with the reader.

The best posts from us are a combination of the four points above. Take some time to use these suggestions when deciding your blog’s topics and you’ll have more than enough topics to cover!
