Today marks GreenMellen’s 10th anniversary, which is amazing to me. It’s been an incredible ride, and I’m thrilled with how our company has grown over the years.
The Beginning
To start, though, it really goes back about 15 years. Back in 2004, I tried WordPress for the first time, and it’s become a more critical part of my life and business every year since then. In fact, it’s still the core technology that we use in our company today. Later that hear, I was hired on at Mt. Bethel UMC to be their web guy, and Ali was brought on as an intern a year later.
In 2008, Ali left her job at the church to start her own design company (and her old site is still up!). I left in 2009 to focus on web development, and we quickly realized we’d need each other’s help to get things done. Thus, GreenMellen was born!
The Growth
The first four years were mostly Ali and I trying to figure out what we were doing. We could build excellent websites but also learning the ropes when it came to business. Even so, before long, we had more work than we could handle, so in 2013, we got our first small office space and hired our first part-time employee.
In the years since then, we’ve brought on Ashlea, Brooke, Natalie and Elena, and I couldn’t be happier with our fantastic team! The strength of our team and the dedication that they bring to the company is something that Ali and I couldn’t have dreamed of. To be able to work with these incredible people every day is unbelievable.
The Future
It feels weird to say it on our 10th anniversary, but we’re just getting started. Our growth is giving us the ability to give back more to our community by helping local non-profit organizations such as Project 82, Kidz2Leaders and The Aimee Copeland Foundation. Having a powerful team in place is allowing Ali and I to focus on more than just daily tasks, but the power of our team has also given me the flexibility to contribute in other ways in our community. This includes co-organizing WordCamp Atlanta for the past two years and serving as the membership chair for the vibrant and growing Kennesaw Business Association. We’re working on using our growth to fuel growth around us, and it’s incredible to be a part of that.
We have a lot to be proud of, and a lot to look forward to, and I can’t wait to see where the next 10 years take us!
